What a day! Solar Eclipse 2017 will definitely be an experience to remember! What did we do to commemorate? Well…let's check it out! My guide to enjoying a great scientific phenomenon in just 3 easy steps.
- First…identify a special person/group of people to experience the once-in-a-lifetime event with. My husband missed sharing this occasion with us since he had to catch a flight the day before for a work trip. I was thrilled that his big sister came in town to share it with me and the girls. Great visit indeed!
- Second…see what your local city/county has to offer. I'm on the email list of all of the happenings in the area and they surely did an outstanding job providing activities all over the city. I began the day with my normal walk at a local city park. While there, city representatives were there distributing free goodies: water bottles with a water filling station along with solar glasses. They also had mist stands set up…which felt GREAT after my 3 mile walk! We even had the super cool experience of meeting NASA scientists. They had a professional telescope available for viewing. The coolest part was being able to take pics from the viewpoint. Check out my beautiful masterpiece! The dots are the sunspots.
- Third…partake in some delicious food! We enjoyed this task in two parts. Part one took place the night before at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse…absolutely delish (another post on fine dining with kids coming soon). Part two was the day of. With so much excitement in the city and people traveling near and far to witness the occurrence in our NASA approved state, avoiding lines was extremely difficult. Especially at the super popular and tasty Mod Pizza. To add to the special occasion, though no reason is necessary to stop by this fan favorite spot, we grabbed some solar eclipse themed donuts from Duck Donuts.
We arrived back home at exactly 1:13 which marked the official start of the eclipse on our city. We hurried to grab our glasses and looked up at the sky…it started right on time. Alana yelled, "don't eat our sun! Give it back!" Indeed it did and it was awesome to watch. Of course, my pics don't do it any justice but the visual will be one that I will always remember.
These photos are courtesy of NASA. Additional pics of the full progression is available on their website and social media pages.
Our personal shadow was the sharpest it will ever be so of course I had to get some pics of mine.
To make it even more special, our little love bug turned 9 months old today. Just love this little lady!
For some scientific fun, comment what you did to celebrate and share your solar eclipse identity. Mine is "Angel of Limitless Passion".
