Gallery 1957

On March 6, 1957– Ghana became the first African country to successfully gain its independence from Britain.

Gallery 1957, launched by Marian Zakhem on Ghana Independence Day 2016, presents leading artists working across West Africa and the diaspora.

Gallery 1957 has since expanded across two gallery spaces within Accra, one of which is housed in the Kempinski Hotel.

During a nice romantic evening walk around the hotel, my hubby and I enjoyed viewing the beautiful masterpieces and engaging in discussion about the art pieces. It was the perfect way to recap on all of the information learned over the course of the trip.

My most favorite was the Ghana flag made with discontinued coins. The artist explained that he wanted to give value to what was once valuable. Beautiful sentiment indeed.

Check out more art from this gallery here.

Until next time,

Xoxo
