Kakum National Park

Kakum National Park was one of the most breathtakingly beautiful experiences we had while in Africa. According to Trip Advisor, it is the second of fifteen must-do activities in Ghana. The first is the historical tour of the slave castles. Click here to read the recap from our visit there.

What I enjoyed the most about this excursion was the view. It was extremely peaceful standing on the canopy bridges 30 meters above the ground and taking in the beauty of the trees and rainforest life.

The journey was a bumpy one. We had to walk up a trail of rocks, steps, and branches to make it to the canopy bridges. Along the route were covered seating to provide opportunities for rest. There were also local farmers selling honey, fruit, and vegetables at their stands.

Once you arrive to the top, there are seven bridges connected together in a circular path taking you around the top of the trees in the forest. If heights aren’t your thing, you have the option to only cross two bridges to complete the route. We decided to complete the entire course and it was definitely a treat.

After crossing the bridges, you will then have the option to go even higher to relax in the tree houses. We opted not to do that portion since we were a part of a larger group. Some of whom were either older or not comfortable going higher than 30 meters above ground. It’s definitely something I’m looking forward to completing during our next visit.

Until next time,
