For the first time in nearly a decade, I am taking professional pictures with my natural hair. I know, I know…that’s a very long time. Let me explain. Let’s just say that I became a little addicted to hair extensions over the years. As a wife, mother of two, career woman, entrepreneur, and community advocate, I have found that my biggest life hack is saving time. For me, that included wearing extensions and protective styles (braids, crochet, etc.) that would allow me to maintain my busy schedule along with my workout routine without having to worry about my hair. It became the most convenient way for me to manage my hair care along with the demands of my schedule. Then, “Rona” came and closed salons, forcing me to quickly adapt to doing my own hair. Well, you know the rest.
So, that brings me back to these photos. I had a project that required me to participate in a video and photoshoot (stay tuned for details in an upcoming blog post with more details). This required me, for the first time in eight years, to wear my natural hair. I was so excited, thanks to my glam squad, and I felt great!
Well, after participating in a two-part shoot and running errands in this summer heat, my hair looked like this by the end of the day.
Let me tell you that I was all the way in my feelings. My fabulous hair didn’t even last twenty-four hours. So, friends, I need you to help me out. Please comment with suggestions, tips, and strategies for caring for natural hair. I am new to this and in addition to my hair, I have two adorable little girls that rely on me when salons are closed. By the way, stay tuned for my PSA on why you should pay hair stylists whatever they want. We are deeply in their debt and I am truly appreciative for their talents, skills, and services.
Until next time,
Xoxo
