Worldwide Day of Play

It’s bright and early, let’s rise and shine! My girls typically have the opportunity to catch up on their favorite cartoons on Saturday morning and Sunday afternoons since they aren’t permitted to watch television on weekdays. This morning, while watching Nick Jr., we were reminded that it’s #WorldwideDayOfPlay. This is an initiative by Nickelodeon where they turn off the cartoon programs for four hours to encourage children to play…particularly outside. We did just that…indoor and outdoor play…all day!

How did we spend the day? Attending not one, not two…but 3 birthday parties! We were definitely active for the play day. Check out what we did!

Party 1- was at the Plex. The girls spent the day in the Jumping Jacks Bounce House Park. There are 11 huge bounce houses that the kids literally jump until they can’t anymore. Alana had a blast bouncing with her classmates and Ariah thoroughly enjoyed the freedom to crawl around on the open floor space. Pizza, desserts and treats were served at the end of their fun jumping experience. Other activities at this attraction includes the Game Arcade, HiWire Trampoline Park, Indoor Sports, Roller Skating Rink, and Laser Tag.

Party 2- was at EdVenture Children’s Museum. It’s always a great time to go see Eddie– the world’s largest ten year old boy! We have a family membership and visit this attraction quite often during the year. We love this place so much that we hosted Alana’s 3rd Doc McStuffin’s themed birthday party here (post coming soon about the bash). In addition to enjoying games, crafts, treats, and dancing at the party, the girls had even more fun in the library theatre, grocery store, diner and kids’ backyard exhibits.

Party 3- was at the historic Elm Abode Mansion. This was the perfect setting for all of the fun activities available for the various age groups. Alana particularly enjoyed the screened in trampoline, outdoor theatre screen, princess bounce house, and motorized train ride. Ariah had a blast with the bubble machines, the little Tyke slide, and the swing set. We all really liked the story time with drumming and dancing, and the see-saw swing on the playground set. To add to the festivities, an ice cream truck had your favorite cold refreshments and there was every sweet treat you could possibly think of available to partake in.

Goody, goody, goody! From the candy collected from the piƱata to the treat bags given by each host, the girls have plenty to remind them of the fun they had for #WWDoP. As a certified early childhood educator, I always look for ways to extend their learning. After birthday parties, I get them a book that ties in to the theme of the party. Alana attended a total of 4 parties this week and received two books for each theme which added 8 books to our home library collection. We are well on our way to collecting her goal of 1,000 books!

Party themes were:

Classroom party- Dory

Party 1- Trolls

Party 2- Shimmer and Shine

Party 3- Sharks and the Sea

Needless to say, we definitely enjoyed our own version of Worldwide Day of Play! Be sure to mark your calendar to join the celebration next year and check your local area for planned festivities. If you don’t see any offered, you can also create your own. Click here to view additional details. You never know…we may be planning our own day of fun next year! Stay tuned.

Happy playing!
