Mother’s Day 5Fs

Today marked the 4th year celebrating Mother’s Day after birthing my children in the world. It was my first one without my hubby and I missed him like crazy. Unfortunately, his mom lost her sister who was also her best friend and the funeral was in Ohio on yesterday. His travel schedule had him in Florida on Wednesday-Friday, Ohio on Friday-Sunday, and will be in Chicago Sunday-Saturday. Being away from him, especially under those circumstances, helped me to enjoy 5 Fs just a little bit more and love a little harder on this special day.

F #1- Family- as the only child of three parents (my mother remarried when I was 5 and my father remained single), I try my best to make sure my girls are able to spend time with all three sides of my family. Today, it took extra effort to spend the day with the special women in our lives who all happen to be the matriarch of their respective side. We attended 8am service with my grandmother (on my Dad’s side), 11am service with my mother and dad, and 3pm dinner with my grandmother and family (on my Father’s side). My grandmothers are the last two living grandparents I have, one is 92 and the other is 83.

F #2- Fellowship- spending the day with almost everyone was a very special treat. I was able to catch up with family I haven’t seen in awhile and have in depth conversations about what’s going on in our lives and see how much our children have grown since the last time we were together. I was also able to spend quality time with my father and grandmother who don’t live in the our city.

F #3- Food- eating this delicious meal in peace was probably by far the best gift I could get. I was able, for the most part, to eat an entire meal uninterrupted. That in itself was awesome!

F #4- Friends- my friends made the day extra special. I don’t take for granted all of my friends and Sorority sisters who took a moment to send me thoughtful FB messages, images like the one above, calls and texts. I’m truly appreciative of their kind words, love and support during my motherhood journey. My village, as I fondly call them, hosted gender reveal parties, planned baby showers, visited the hospital after delivery and continues to attend birthday parties and other celebrations and milestones are the best friends a girl could ask for.

F #5- Fun- playing games, cheering on our favorite player in the NBA playoffs, watching episodes of comedy shows, and keeping up with the kiddos made a very entertaining afternoon. I got extra tickled opening up the gifts from the girls. Especially the sassy photo taken by my oldest.

This mom of two enjoyed a great day of celebrating the special moms in my life…and being celebrated for my greatest accomplishment of having my two love bugs. I’m indeed one happy little lady with a very grateful heart.

Enjoy! Xoxo
